Most out of touch government in our history!

So as the deadline approaches for the implementation of the straw the broke the country's back (in my opinion)<<Obamacare.>> .  .  .  I can't help but think of some of the scenes leading up to where we are today.

I remember a news film of Obama being questioned by media because at the time more than half of the population of the country was against this program - and I remember his response.  Basically we idiot citizens didn't know what was good for us and he was going to sign it in no matter what.  Kind of the way the rest of the presidency has gone as well.  Apparently the man doesn't understand the meaning of the word compromise. So despite the fact that our country is a democracy apparently the majority being against something doesn't mean anything in this country anymore.

Another iconic moment - Nancy Pelosi saying we won't know what's in the bill until after it's been passed - - - Oh My Goodness!!  No wonder this country is in so much trouble.  Not only do our elected officials not show up for work -- they also apparently vote on bills they don't even read.  How about we start paying them based on their attendance at work??

So I understand that one of the things that our benevolent lawmakers were so concerned about was the fact that there wasn't affordable health care available to everyone.  That is a shame.  However in typical knee-jerk reaction our elected officials once again decide to pull out another band aid rather than remove the previous dressing and actually clean the wound first.  Let's see . . . .why IS healthcare so expensive?  1) lawsuits run amuck  2) taj mahal health care facilities  3) pharmaceutical companies with exclusive market rights 4) and, yes, those without ability to pay running up bills they never pay

On the plus side - I like that pre-existing conditions will not cause insurance denial and that insurance companies can no longer decide they won't pay anymore and drop someone because they've been too costly for the company.

However, I don't like to think that my aunt might be denied a hip replacement because she hasn't been able to prove to a board of people that she "deserves" one.....

I don't like being told that because I live within these X square miles, I have to got to a doctor within this geographical area

I don't like the freaking IRS having access to my medical records!! Not to mention the government itself!!

Here's what our out of touch government apparently can't get through their thick heads.....some people don't have A SINGLE SPARE PENNY LEFT OVER TO BUY EVEN THE CHEAPEST INSURANCE!!!

Things I don't understand

Things I don't understand:

Ok - so the feds are listening to all our phone conversations and reading all our emails and taking photos of all of the covers of our snail mail.......

But we're told they aren't "listening" to the calls or "reading" the emails - - - so presumably a computer is listening for specific words - - -

Wouldn't that indicate that most of these would then be discarded?   So why do we need SEVERAL million plus dollar buildings being built in Utah to store this stuff?????

Again - NO answer .. . .

Obamacare:
So this wonderful bill was signed, which admittedly most senators/representatives didn't read first (according to Nancy Pelosi apparently that is how it works in DC - you sign the bill first and then find out what is in it).  I know in my job if I don't read what I'm sending out - I get reprimanded - enough reprimands and I get fired.  Why doesn't that apply in DC????

My sister is working 40 hrs per week - almost minimum wage - no benefits.  This wonderful bill is going to save her life according to Obama and friends.  So now my poor sister who has a very limited disposable income (after bills) is supposed to buy insurance or get fined.  So the cheapest she can find, with 10,000 $ deductible and doesn't pay for clinic visits was around 200$/month.   I guess it is in the best interests of our country that she doesn't have money for groceries and now will have to walk to work (9 miles 1 way) because she'll have no money for gasoline either.  But hey she'll have insurance - which of course she'll never use - because #1 - no gasoline to go to clinic, #2  - no money left over for the treatment.  Or she can forget about getting insurance and pay the fine - which is (rumor) in the works to be increased greatly because so many people are going to have to go with the fine rather than get insurance.  Meanwhile those of us that DO have insurance are all seeing our rates go through the roof as well.  Gee thanks all you wonderful people in DC - once again you've just made another thing that limits any possibility of having any $s left for anything fun.  Used to be able to take road trips and go camping - but thanks to your wonderful financial plans that's long been a thing of the past.

SO TIRED of the rotten decisions coming out of DC!!!!

I want my country back

7/7/13
What has happened to this country?  For the first time in my life I am happy my parents aren't alive - they would be heartbroken to see what has become of their beloved country.

Was it ever perfect - of course not.  Did we have things to fix - of course!

I don't really understand President Obama . . . worst case scenario - he is a plant put here to destroy the country from the inside.  Best case scenario -  he is just a very naive and ideological "posy sniffer".

I've seen pictures of him as a little boy, living in a 3rd world country.  I'm sure when he returned to the United States it seemed like a land flowing with milk and honey and with a child's mind perhaps felt that inequity must change - all persons should be fed and sheltered.

He's right - in a perfect world all people would be fed, clothed, housed and be happy and helpful to their fellow man - they should be, but they're not.  What a child can't understand is that there are some people in this world that will never be willing to accept their own personal responsibility in achieving this goal and with the best intentions in the world, sometimes some people will remain on the outside - not from lack of trying on the part of the good-hearted, but from lack of responsibility on the part of the  individual.

America, though rich in resources and in the generosity of its people, is still not limitless in its power to achieve good without good people - people without personal ambition, but with the good of the nation at their heart and soul leading us.  People that know that capitalism while not perfect, is the best way to achieve prosperity for all its citizens - socialism is the pathway to destruction as has been proved over and over.  You cannot have a socialistic society unless EVERYONE is willing to participate - that means people have to work together and there will be no "winning" by one person - impossible in human nature.  There will always be people with ambition and people without - some are happy to take on responsibility, some are happy to be a cog in the wheel and some will spend more time figuring out how to avoid working than they would actually spend doing a day's worth of work.

This idea of his that the "rich" should take care of everyone else is ridiculous.  Why should they be penalized for their ambition?  I say this as a lower income person - I've never been rich, never will be - but I believe it is MY responsibility to work and pay for my own way and that of my family.  I wouldn't dream of taking the harvest of someone that put in long days and hard time achieving that harvest simply because I didn't apply myself or take advantage of openings to achieve more than I have.

There are SO many programs out there for the needy.  Are they perfect  - of course not - wherever there are dollars involved there will also be greed and fraud because, again, we as a people are not perfect.  I think the biggest mistake this country made was when they eliminated the "works" programs and made them simply "welfare" programs.

Any parent knows that if you give your child everything they will not appreciate it, nor will they care (as in take care of those gifts responsibly) for it (except in the case of truly exceptional people). Constant support is contrary to the ultimate goal of self-care.  There comes a point in every person's life when they must be pushed out of the nest.  Holding their hand will NOT benefit the ultimate goal of making them productive members of society.

I think the welfare system is a right and vital part of our country's programs.  We are a rich nation and should hold out a helping hand to those who lose their jobs through closure, downsizing, natural or unnatural disaster.  Hopefully this has changed, but when I worked in the welfare office there were no programs to help find jobs for people, or relocation funds available.  Spending a little upfront on helping a family resettle in a different location, and helping find a job, is an investment that has worth and merit.

Consistently sending out dollars in the way of food stamps and cash payments, to the tune of $60,000/year for some families, is unsustainable and wrong.  It is also detrimental to the mental health of our nation.  Perhaps if a person/family is unable to connect that lack of birth control and the cost associated with bringing another mouth into the family are connected - maybe we should look at mandatory sterilization??????  I know I wouldn't like that - but again, some people are inherently unable to take personal responsibility and that is required in order for our nation to flourish.

Likewise it is wrong to allow loopholes in our tax system that ensure that lower income people are paying more in taxes than the wealthy.  In the same way it is DEFINITELY wrong for people that paid no monies in taxes to be able to file a return that gives them a refund in thousands of dollars.

We need to go to a flat tax - - every person holding a job pays a percentage of their income in taxes from lowest to highest - no deductions, no loopholes.  We would be miles ahead in actual funds.  This also applies to "trust fund babies" - once they reach the age of majority the dollars they collect each year should be taxed at the same percentage as everyone else. And, also, perhaps if no monies (as in taxes) are paid then you have no right to vote?

Social security income should be available only to those of a certain income.  Obviously if you are living on an income of several thousand dollars a year, the add'l few thousand that you might receive from social security are not required and should therefore be put back into the pool for those that weren't able to contribute as much throughout their lifetime.

Our government is so out of touch with the citizens of this country it is appalling.  We have allowed a group of people to set one set of rules for us and another for them, we've allowed them to set their own salaries and raises, they are allowed greater benefits than anyone else in this country and the only people I know of that will enjoy larger retirement than even their annual salary when they retire.  How can that be right?  They lie to us and are never held accountable, they hold back vital information (supposedly in the interest of national security), they spy on us and year after year impose more rules and regulations that restrict our ability to grow and prosper.  WHY ARE WE NOT VOTING THESE PEOPLE OUT OF OFFICE???????

I am disgusted by our government.  They have led us to the brink of annihilation.  Do you really think that we can continue to spend as we do, as a nation, without repercussion?  Simply because we "have been" the greatest nation on earth does not mean we will retain that title.  Every great nation has fallen and I believe every time it has been because it overspent.........we are in shackles to China.  Our government has been irresponsible and reckless in its actions.  We need to take responsibility, as its citizens, and stand up for a government that runs things with integrity and forethought.  Even if there is a govt official that you think is responsible - we need to vote out every incumbent there is - do this for a few years, mix it up, and maybe we'll start seeing people that actually give a darn about the country and quit posing on the side of their "party" for a change ...... what a refreshing thought that is.

This country has been in a decline since WWII because of our lack of morals, personal responsibility, and our lack of responsibility in watching the antics of those that govern us.  WAKE UP!! Soon we won't be worrying about people lazing about on the system - because if you think we're in bad shape now, wait until we're under communistic rule.......or worse....
